Meet [Official] 苗圃行動 Sowers Action

Throw back to the 4th day of Chinese New Year, 4 Feb 2022, 16 of us came together online from Canada China and Hong Kong to have Chinese New Year greetings with苗圃行動, Sowers Action, a HK registered social service in Hong Kong. The kids wanted to know more about social work in Hong Kong, so they interviewed with Ms Brianna Hui, the CEO and Ms Kanis Leung, the Project Officer. The kids learned that Sowers Action was established in 1992, offering support to the poor, disabilities, seniors, orphans and people who are in medical needs. In addition, Sowers action offers finanical aids to students who cannot afford tuition fee. Their support is not only for Hong Kong locals, they also extend their helps to China, Nepal, and other developing countries in Asia.

A group of SYPS students were so excited about the two Chinese and English Sci-fi story books were successfully launched in March, that they had participated in writing stories last summer. And while the covid cases has dropped significantly, they decided to visit苗圃行動Sowers Action Office to delivered the two new books. They autographed the books representing their characters in the story and presented them to Brianna and Kanis.

The students want to spread their hopes and loves to the community and agree to run a charity program to sell the two Sci-Fi books, 《Supernova Pandemic and 「星星超人學府之SPYS星球交流團」Their mission is to raise funds and donate them to Sowers Action to help the families in subdivided flats in this pandemic.

Thank you Together Magazine for writing an awesome article on the two Sci-Fi story books by the 62 kids from China, Hong Kong and Canada.

Their creativity and team spirit are so energetic that would make a positive impact on this never ending pandemic. 25 of SYPS students will run a charity program of selling their books to raise fund for [Official] 苗圃行動 Sowers Action to help people who are in need during this trying time.

Alia Spring Kong, the Lead Author, Editor and Illustrator of the English book, Supernova Pandemic, has an encouraging message for those kids who were bored and lonely at home during the pandemic. She also introduced a new Star in the story, lets read about where she has got the inspiration from.

Meet the two Contributing Authors of the English book, Supernova Pandemic

Ryder Chow, 8, Contributing Author of Ch 3 & 4 , from Canada. He is also an Artist, contributing to the illustrations in Ch 3. Ryder created his own character in the story as Pine King, the King of Pinet.

Vicky Ding, 12, Contributing Author of Ch 5, from China. She is an Illustrator of Ch 5. Vicky created her own character in the story, called Wina, an experimental werewolf.

Here is Ryder’s sharing about his experience in this book writing project:

“My name is Ryder Chow and I am 7 years old. I speak English and am currently learning French and Chinese. I love learning different languages because I love chatting with different people from different countries without getting confused. Writing is another way of communication besides chatting. In 2019, I participated in the first book of Kids Power Academy as a creditor. That was my first time writing a superhero and being involved in a book published. This time, I am a leader and challenged myself as an author of chapter 3. It was difficult for me at the beginning, but with my mom and teammates’ support, I could express my thoughts and feelings freely by writing them into paragraphs. I enjoy Lego building too, and it also inspires me to become more creative in writing.”

“My name is Vicky Ding and I’m 12 years old. I love writing and drawing. I read a lot of types of books. I draw quadratic elements the most. To draw better, I take time to look at others' drawings, observe people around me like their faces and clothes. I always create new and interesting things in my mind. I wrote ch 5 The Unknown: Mutation. I add many mysterious things in the story. I learn a lot of things from this book making project. Like how to communicate with my teammates. How to put your ideas into the plot reasonably. How to make readers understand the plot clearly. And joining this activity won’t make me bored in summer. I really enjoy it. Hope you enjoy our story. “

Meet Marcus Chen, 8

“Hello, my name is Marcus Chen. I live in a beautiful city in Greater Vancouver, Canada, with my father, mother, and younger sister. My family is the most valuable to me. I also like making friends and seeing people smile. When I grow up, I would like to be a restaurant owner, so I can brighten people’s days through the delicious dishes I create. My friends would describe me as thoughtful, generous, responsible, and kind. I also love to learn through new experiences. This was my first time joining Kids Power Academy for the book writing project. I look forward to holding the book in my hands and reading the stories to my family and friends.”

Meet Candy Zhang, 11

She is a contributor to Chapter 2 of the English book, ‘Supernova Pandemic’.

Her superhero character is the Cat Lady.

“My name is Candy Zhang, I'm 11 years old, and I live in Shanghai, China. I like English and I have been learning English since I was 18 months old. I like to draw pictures and read magic stories, also superheros' comics. When I wrote Chapter Two - Earth, I really enjoyed putting funny fragments in the story which always made me laugh. So I think the readers will like it. I have learned how to do team work and stimulate my imagination and creativity. It's a wonderful experience!”

Meet Catherine Chao, 11

She is a the main contributor of Chapter 6 of the English book, ‘Supernova Pandemic’.

Her superhero character is Dr. Cedric.

“Hello, I’m Catherine Chao Hing Yuen. I am studying in 6th grade in Shun Yeung Primary School. I like reading, drawing pictures and making models.

It is great to get the task of writing “Supernova pandemic”. I got a lot of fun to construct the character and storyline imaginatively and I enjoyed the team work. In this process, I got the development of my writing potential, the improvement of my leadership ability and teamwork. This is a very meaningful experience for me.”

Meet Alina Chao, 12

She is a the main contributor of Chapter 4 of the English book, ‘Supernova Pandemic’.

“My name is Alina Chao. I am twelve years old. I wrote Chapter 4 of ‘Supernova Pandemic’ with my teammates. In my spare time, I like to listen to music, writing stories and reading books the most. Reading can let me use imaginations and creativity to see the world in a different way. I personally enjoyed reading adventurous stories best and each time I grab one off the book shelf, I simply cannot put it down because it is so interesting.

Working in teams to publish this book: Supernova Pandemic is a really fun experience and I deeply enjoyed it. The writing creation allows me to imagine a lot and also experienced a lot of brainstorming on the details of writing. Although sometimes I went through lots of hardships and pressures, but I never gave up because I trust that I can overcame the difficulties and finished the work. Last but not least, a BIG thanks to my teammate, Vivian Chu, who gave me a lot of ideas to write this chapter together. Thank you to Kids Power Society for giving me the chance to participate in this book writing project.”

Meet Vivian Chu, 9

She is a good team player and a contributor of Chapter 4 of , the English book, ‘Super Pandemic’.

Her superhero character is the Snowball.

“I’m Vivian Chu. I’m 9 years old, I am honored to have the opportunity to participate in the creation of Chapter 4 of this book. I create the character, Snowball. I never created and wrote a character before, This creation is challenging for me ,I also encountered a lot of difficulties in creating, But I also learned a lot from it. I hope everyone likes Snowball.

Meet Joia Zhao, 11

She is the main contributor of Chapter 10 of the English book "Super Pandemic".

Her superhero character is the Crossing Girl.

“My name is Joia, Zhao Wenxi. I wrote Chapter 10 of the book, ‘Supernova Pandemic’ with my teammate. My dream job is to become a children book author because I love reading, drawing, and sharing interesting stories with the children.

After I joined this book writing activity,I know it is not easy to write a book. I think it is an awesome activity and great experience for kids too. I learned a lot of things during writing book. And I realised that teamwork is everything.

Meet Ryder Chow, 8 years old, the Contributing Author & the Artist of "Supernova Pandemic"

Ryder is the Ambassador of Kids Power Society. He and our society both believes that everyone should keep dreaming and never give up because one day we can change the world. As the Contributing author, he wrote about Pinet and GreenLips. He also learned a lot through using online tools to work with other teammates. Meet Carson Yuen, 袁知行， 11 the Lead Author of the Chinese version of Kids Power Academy

Carson said it is a very challenging position which took him a lot of efforts to overcome all the obstacles. He had learned the importance of teamwork when it came to solve problems. And he said perseverance is the key to reach the goal. He created a character, Ring Boy, in the story. Ring Boy is a top biologist working for SPYS Star Science Research Facility. He is the Captain in the story who led a team to travel back time to learn the story of the superheroes who were recruited by Lady JJ. It is a very interesting story, if you want to know more about the amazing story, stay tuned the Chinese book，星星超人學府之SPYS星球科學交流團，will be available in January 2022.

It was amazing to learn from Cherry about the book writing program and the two books will be launching in early next year. Our very first Chinese book will be published in January and the English one will be launched in March next year, 2022.

Coming up next, we will meet with the authors and co-authors of both the Chinese and English books, and they are:

We will first meet with Alia Kong next week, our Spokeslady and the Lead Author of the English book. She will share with us about where she got the inspiration to create the main plot of Supernova Pandemic.

Her character in the book is still the Lightning Girl. She has grown a lot in the story and now she is called by abbreviation, LG.

Meet Ms. Cherry Li, (Cantonese) Executive Director of Kids Power Society

 

Cherry studied in China and was an exchange student to Japan during her young age. Her family then moved to Canada and she continued her study and finished university in Vancouver. She is married and has two beautiful children, at age 8 and 3.

The major challenge for her in organizing the Superpen Creative Book Writing Contest was to arrange an online platform for 63 kids from different countries to meet together for writing stories of the two chapter books, one in Chinese and the other one in English. And she often needed to speak in trilingual to make sure everyone got the same ideas and they were on the same page. The whole writing project lasted for 6 weeks including meetings, discussions, presenting, writing and illustrations. The final version of the writing and illustrations were submitted to the publisher for further development.

The Chinese book is called 星星超人學府之SPYS星球科學交流團。The story include the translation of the first book, Kids Power Academy: Superheroes Assembly and a new short story in each chapter regarding science discovery in the translation. This will be the first Chinese version of the series and estimated publishing date is by mid of January.

The English book is called ‘Supernova Pandemic’. The plot and outline the story was prepared by the Spokeslady of Kids Power Academy, Ms Alia Kong, 10. She led the other 24 kids to write each chapter story of the book together. Alia got the inspiration from the pandemic, and she expand the story of the pandemic to the universe. It will be a super amazing one, stay tuned for the book launches.

About Dr. Cherry Bee, the very futuristic character appears in both the Chinese and English book, Cherry said she designed and created it a long time ago. Alia Kong illustrated it for her. At first she just called it Cherry Bee. Since the theme of the two books are about Science, the character earned its title as Dr. Cherry Bee who is in charge of battling universal crisis by using her extraordinary Science knowledge. Dr. Cherry Bee can use telepathy to send messages director to other’s minds. Her two cherries on her head are like antennas, receiving every intel that she might need.

Cherry’s vision is she wants to invite more children and parents to join Kids Power Society to witness a new revolution has risen. Our children are in the era of commercial spacecraft travel, AI community, diversity in learning knowledge at school, nurturing more creations and less in repeating the existing information.

She believes Creativity and Science are the key to the new future, new universe and a new dimension.

They will share with us about their job experience and their inspirations to create multiple stories.

We will first meet with the Executive Director of the two books, Ms Cherry Li. She will talk about her role as a mom to a significant position of the Executive Director in Project Management. And she will also share with us about how her son inspired her to see the future differently. She also will talk about the story of her character in the book, Dr. Cherry Bee, who is overwhelming with Science discoveries.

New characters is coming

In the 2nd book of Kids Power Academy series, Supernova Pandemic, everything happens in the universe. SPYS Star is the key to save all the life forms!

Our Spokeslady Alia Spring Kong designed and created this planet for the story. She and the other 23 kids came together online from different countries and cities to write the story for the new book this summer.

Alia got her inspiration to create SPYS Star by her Chinese school. The abbreviation of the school name is SPYS spelled backwards. And its emblem is the symbol of Ying and Yang which reminded her of a picture of an eye. She said when the eyes are halfway shut, half of the vision was darkened while the other half was lightened.    

So she designed SPYS Star as an eyeball with a dark blue eyelid representing Ying and the aqua blue eyeball representing Yang. Together they resembled her school’s emblem. The twilight blue iris is a control room of SPYS Star. It has many angled lenses which allows users to see distant planets and stars from far away. It can defeat intruders with eyeballs. SPYS Star Science Facility is for all the top scientists from all over the universe. They work together to claim new discoveries and create new universes of Science.         

Another new and important character will be introduced in the new book. She is Dr. Cherry Bee. She is the Chair Lady of the S.P.Y.S. Committee who was directing the operation of defeating a supervirus causing a supernova pandemic.

She is the ‘mother’ of Pine King and is Lady JJ ‘s closest ally. She uses telepath to control minds. She is the Master of Science in the universe.

Now, lets have a look of this new planet, SPYS Star and Dr Cherry Bee. They were designed and drawn by Alia Kong.
